Responsible for working with Kerry's flavor and ingredient Research and Development (R&D), Marketing and Sales team to support existing and new business opportunities. Conduct and develop in-depth analyses of flavors and flavor ingredients, manage projects, make recommendations for new instrumentation, and equipment upgrades and replacement, to support internal and external customers. Primarily responsible for working with Kerry's flavor and ingredient Research and Development (R&D) as the R&D lead for Maillard chemistry, amino acid chemistry, thermal processing, flavor compounding, and analytical chemistry. Manage and mentor one direct report (R&D Associate Scientist) responsible for research and development of taste solutions from product concept to a commercially available product for the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industry. Provide production facilities with technical expertise during early product commercialization phase, support continuous improvement of production efficiencies and resolve production challenges. Coordinate with marketing and sales teams to support existing and new business opportunities. Support customer visits, conferences and tradeshows to strengthen customer confidence in Kerry's technical expertise in order to defend/win existing/new business opportunities. Conduct and develop in-depth analyses of flavors and flavor ingredients to solve flavor and ingredient challenges. Manage projects by establishing project goals and timelines based on needs.
Position requires 20% domestic travel to Kerry sites, customer sites, and for meetings/conferences. International travel possible in the future as needed.
Qualifications and skills
The position of Senior Scientist requires a Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemical Biology, or a related field and five (5) years of research experience.
Additionally, the applicant must have experience with: i) Flavor chemistry and biology such as Maillard chemistry, amino acid chemistry, flavor compounding, intermolecular interactions, reaction chemistry, reaction kinetics and thermal processing; ii) Analytical chemistry such as LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, GCO, extraction and data interpretation; iii) Experimental design, data analysis and interpretation; iv) Applying technical knowledge to solve scientific, product, and ingredient challenges; v) Authoring project briefs, project summaries and technical updates; vi) Engaging with global customer's technical staff.
